Exploring Prof Wole Soyinka’s take on romance chemistry

Exploring Prof Wole Soyinka’s take on romance chemistry

Exploring Prof Wole Soyinka’s take on romance chemistry
This is one side of eminent Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka you hardly see or hear about. During  the  Ake Arts and Book Festival lately  in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he seemed to have been left with no other choice than talking. During the interview session at the festival, he was asked about how he wooed and got a favorable response from his first love.
According to a report by Akintayo Abodunrin, the Prof tried to parry the question. “I have a reputation for total recall. People are astonished by how I remember images, events from childhood and this is one of those areas where they fall down,” he ducked.
What Prof said
But upon the insistence of his eager audience, he obliged.  Kongi said : “I’m not a great scientist but I believe in chemistry. When chemistry happens, you know at once. So just follow the vibes from the person. If you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
Well, we all know it. We know when it washes all over us, making us foster instant connections with some people. Sometimes the feeling is so strong, we tend to lose control of our emotions.
Cecilia’s dilemma
Cecilia sat on her bed waiting for Tunji, who had called to say he was on his way. By her estimation, he would be there in five minutes, but the initial excitement had long gone awry. He heart beat her ribs intensely and she was drenching in her own sweat in an air-conditioned room. Maybe it was a sign that he was headed  for danger,  she thought, but she still needed to see the gentle but warm guy she had met at a shopping mall. She had a similar feeling when they first met, only that it was worse this time.
When the door bell rang, she felt her legs wobble as she made for the living room. Her throat had run dry, making her swallow and gasp for breath. Like it started, everything was magical. As she ushered him in, the wild visceral reaction stopped. She felt calm and comfortable in his presence.
Truly, Cecilia could have been in a big mess but for  Tunji’s maturity. She was already engaged to a man who loved her so much, but tried as she did after the visit, she couldn’t get Tunji off her mind. “The chemistry was and is still there. While there is no fire in the other relationship, this one with Victor is burning hot, and I don’t seem to be able to handle it,” she explains.
Victor is, indeed, matured. He also likes her but he would not sleep with another man’s woman. They are good friends now.
Causes
Although, the causes of this love trigger are still being investigated, experts  agree on the symptoms, as is captured here by Wikipedia. “There are various psychological, physical and emotional symptoms of having good chemistry with another person. It has been described as a “combination of basic psychological arousal combined with a feeling of pleasure”.
“The nervous system gets aroused, causing one to get adrenaline in the form of rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and sensations of excitement that are often similar to sensations associated with danger”.
Other physical symptoms include “blood pressure rising  a little and a feeling of weakness in the knees. One can also uncontrollably smile whenever thinking about the other person.”
Spiritual connection?
An often quoted expert on the causes of chemistry is Dr. Kelly Campbell. According to the Professor of Psychology at California State University, people are more likely to experience friendship chemistry if their personalities were open (i.e adventurous, imaginative, and emotionally in-tune), conscientious (i.e competent, disciplined, hard-working), and agreeable (i.e  friendly, cooperative, and considerate).
This is part of Campbell’s study I find compelling: “In the end, my journey to understand chemistry afforded many answers. But even after the personal reflections, discussions with friends and research studies, I still question whether chemistry involves something that cannot be explained by science. Part of me thinks so. Maybe it is caused by a spiritual connection, remembering the future, or destiny, I don’t know”, she said.
Spiritual connection? Many of the people I have spoken with admit being overpowered by the chemistry, making them happy on the inside and rejuvenated, but they admitted  they do not think it is all due to physical attraction. I can attest to that.
Caution
Whatever causes chemistry, one thing is certain. People tend to be attracted and feel chemistry with people who make us feel good. As one expert puts it, if we feel chemistry with people who hurt us then that is a matter to discuss in therapy.
Chemistry is a romantic catalyst, so strong that some experts conclude that without it, there can be no relationship. But they are quick to warn that because of the power of chemistry to blind us, it could be one of the most dangerous and self-destructive emotions if left unchecked.

Flying object: It was fun toy that lost contact - Owner

THE inventor of the alleged mysterious flying object which crashed into a house in Awotan, Ido Local Government area, Ibadan, Engineer Sunday Folayan, has disclosed that the object was quadrocopter and one of the many flying toys in his custody.

Our sister publication, Sunday Tribune, published the story.

But Folayan said as a “proud Nigerian” and one that cannot be used against the interest of Nigeria, he has no link with the US, adding that he was only satisfying his hobby.

Folayan made this disclosure in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, saying the alleged flying object was “a fun toy that went wrong.” He added that the object, identified as quadrocopter, was no near a drone on an espionage mission as was speculated.

He said “I am an orbits person with passion for flying objects which I usually operate within my environment, but since the one in question is a quadrocopter which has better stability we decided to calibrate it. It was very unfortunate that it flew out of control specifically on Sunday, December 22. However, I informed my neighbours but was embarrassed when I discovered that it had been linked to espionage.

“I don’t know where they got their fact from but I think it was exaggerated. Even if espionage is involved, it should be handled with caution and left for the experts. It is not in the interest  of both countries, USA and Nigeria, I don’t work for the two countries either but I’m a proud Nigerian and I believe we should all work for the development of our great nation.”

The caretaker chairman, Ido Local Government, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, said there is no cause for alarm, adding that security agents were abreast of the development. Although he said his observation of the object as a physicist clearly guided him that such  cannot last with acclaimed energy if it actually came from the US.

Olowofela, in his submission, said he rushed down to the scene of the incident before he discovered that it was a toy. He stated that there was no plane crash, no case of espionage in the local government area as reported.

Meanwhile, Professor Olowofela has stated that the local government authority should have been contacted and warned media practitioners to exercise caution especially in cases involving two countries. He said such report could portray the US as a spy while it could also strain the relationship between Nigeria and the US.

5 ways to reduce holiday in your marriage

Doctors Charles & Elizabeth Schmitz, married couple and marriage counselors, found so interesting secrets to stay stress free during this festive season. Hope you find them useful. Cheers

Don’t let stress destroy your relationship during the holidays. Act now!
Experiencing stressful situations during the holidays can happen in even the best relationships. We have all seen it—the grandest of holiday plans come crumbling down when the inevitable holiday calamities begin to happen.
Here are five ways you and your spouse can lower your stress level and have a more relaxed holiday season:
1. Take extra special care of yourself and your spouse. Get enough sleep, take your vitamins, eat healthy and exercise to increase your ability to handle the stressful situations that always occur during the holidays. Eliminate your useless worry about things that will never happen. The holiday does not have to be perfect! The relationships built are more important than holiday perfection.
2. Money is not the solution to a great holiday season—especially in these tough economic times. Rather, it is the simple things that matter—simple acts of kindness, homemade gifts and cards, simple expressions of love. Take a moment in the midst of the chaos and pressure of the holidays to focus on the important things in life. Give your spouse respect, understanding, your embrace, your kiss and your time.
3. Appreciate the traditions within your family and your spouse’s family. Blend them together in a way that both you and your spouse will cherish as you make new memories together. Don’t feel compelled to follow the exact same traditions of one family over the other without a full discussion of what you both want as you build your “traditions” together. Talk about what you are going to do for the season - what are you and your spouse’s highest priorities? Have this conversation as soon as possible so you can eliminate all the stuff that doesn’t matter.
4. When holiday problems arise—as they always do—talk about them openly rather than blaming or wallowing in self pity. Discussions about serious matters must always begin with agreement about what the issues really are. Work to identify the issue, establish the parameters of the discussion, and agree to solve the problem together. Blaming and wallowing in self-pity are wasted emotions.
5. As the stress rises, so does the opportunity for argument and disagreement. When the holiday tension is so thick that you could cut it with a knife, it is easy to let nasty statements and sharp words roll off your tongue, making judgmental statements about your spouse, their actions, and their relatives. Think twice before exploding with vitriolic words that cannot be taken back.
Our final thought for the holidays is this—no love has blossomed or been sustained without doing the simple things. Focusing on the simple things during the holidays will go a long way towards making it a stress free holiday season for you and your family.

Mosun Filani Debunks Rumours She Is Dead And Banned From Nollywood

Mosun Filani has been engrossed with her job that most time she forgets the section of the media to re-address issues surrounding her… recently, there was aproko that her husband, Kayode Oduoye was tired of her busyness in Nollywood that he has banned her from acting, this is one gist Mosun will not sit down and swallow without difficulty, she has come out to say that this is a rubbish report by a blog, she really got a lot of issues she has addressed not forgetting the one that said she was late.

She said “That’s strange o! How can anybody say I am dead when I am still alive? It’s a wicked rumour, and I believe it emanated from enemies of progress. I am not even sick, let alone dying. The rumour is weighty, and it can never be my portion in Jesus name. I believe you can recognize my voice that I am the one speaking with you. That alone shows that it’s a fake and useless rumour. I am alive, hale and hearty, enjoying my marriage. I will advise those behind it to spend their valuable time on something meaningful”

She laughed at the gist that her husband has banned her… My husband never banned me from acting. The truth is that after my marriage, I decided to take things easy and concentrate on my home front rather than career. Work is there forever, I can continue at any time I like. My husband doesn’t disturb my career. Our marriage has also been blessed with a baby girl, Oluwashemilore. She was just one year old in November this year. Everything concerning my marriage has to be given special attention before any other thing. But very soon, I will stage a big come back. I am still very much in the industry”
Good to know that Mosun is not dead and still acting.

Flying object crashes into home in Ibadan

•Controversy trails mission of spacecraft •Object believed to be US drone

According to Nigerian Tribune, a mysterious spacecraft, which residents of Awotan in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State called a “drone”, was reported to have crashed into a building at Omiremi Quarters in the community, leaving a crater on the roof of the building, just as aviation sources confirmed the object as a United States’ drone on an espionage mission in Nigeria.
Considering the registration number, TX 5803, inscribed on a black battery under the craft, a source said the space craft must have taken off from  NASA base in Texas in the US, stating that the battery attached to the spacecraft powered it and enabled it to move around so that it could do the bidding of those who sent it.
Though many aviation sources told Sunday Tribune that the object could be a device used in espionage, another source, however, believed that the craft was a “nondescript aviation device”.
It will be recalled that the United States of America has, in recent times, come under attack by other countries for spying on their activities which may have confirmed the discovery of the spacecraft in Ibadan.
The craft, which was said to have dropped down from the orbit, flew into a toilet in the house of Ashipa of Awotan, Chief Tajudeen  Adetoro, a few minutes after his grandson, Afeez  Adewale and daughter-in-law, Adikat, left the toilet where they had gone to answer the call of nature.
According to Chief Adetoro, the mysterious aircraft forced itself into the toilet through the roof making deafening sound, saying it could have killed Afeez and his mother, if it had met them in the toilet.
The spacecraft, with a product number QR X30, has four stands and a rounded compartment housing its engine. It has a dry cell battery, USB drive, a censor and cables, while each of its stands has a two-way roving fan mounted on them.
The residents of the sleepy community told Sunday Tribune that the object was not a toy due to the fearful noise it made and the way it flew about, adding that it could be an explosive.
“When it flew out, we rushed after it and it was found hanging on the antennae of our neighbour...making a terrible noise and emitting heavy smoke,” Chief Adetoro narrated.
He said they ran for safety on hearing the loud bang made on the roof of their house only to discover that the object had entered the toilet hitting its wall in an attempt to exit.
Information obtained about the object from the internet revealed that it shares similarities with a device called Walkera QR X350 GPS which is sold for roughly $500.
Though the product description on it is not intelligible, Sunday Tribune learnt that it could be a remote-controlled transmitter that gives no signal when in the air, but which is used for gathering information.
How flying object crashed into building in Ibadan Mother, son escaped death
It is almost unbeliavebale, but it is real. A drone-like object fell from the sky on the roof of a house in Ibadan last Sunday shattering the roof of the house. MARUF BELLO writes that luck saved a mother and her son from being killed by the object.
FOR Afeez Adewale, a 16-year-old boy, sheer luck saved him and Adikat, his mother, from being sent to their early graves a few minutes after they left the toilet in their house, last Sunday, at Omiremi Quarters, Awotan, Ibadan.
Afeez had gone to the toilet to answer the call of nature not long after his mother had come out of the same toilet only to hear a loud bang on the roof of their house, specifically the toilet.
The object was said to have forcefully fallen on the roof of the toilet breaking through and shattering its asbestos.
According to the Asipa of Awotan and landlord of the house, Chief Tajudeen Adetoro, it wasn’t long after Afeez and his mother left the rest room when they suddenly heard a frightening sound on the roof of the toilet.
Chief Adetoro, who is Afeez’s grandfather, said it was God that saved the mother and son, saying the source of the drone-like object was unknown.
“We were in panic; we were almost dead when we heard the sound suddenly and all of us scampered for safety. It was after a few minutes that we thought that hiding in the house was not the solution but to find a way to get the object out of our house due to the horrible and disturbing noise it was making that my son and I fearfully moved to the scene to know what it was.
“When we got there, we stood a little away looking at it from a short distance. It was then we saw it clearly and it was seriously struggling making a frightening noise in its bid to find an escape route. As it was struggling, it was hitting every angle of the toilet walls forcefully shrieking and trying to exit the toilet.
“It was during the struggle that it escaped through the same point it gained entry. When it flew out, we rushed after it and it was found hanging on the antenna of our neighbour. It hung there making a terrible noise and emitting heavy smoke. I think in the process of struggle to get it out, it lost one of its components, a stand. I asked my son to climb the facial board to remove it.
“When he brought it down, it was heavy and there were so many red illuminating lights all over it blinking every second,” the chief narrated.
He said when the material had been removed from where it was stuck so that they could examine it thoroughly, the object repeatedly tried to fly away.
“It  was then I asked my son to remove some of its compartments to render it inactive. We removed the battery, its censor, among others. At that time, everybody in the neighbourhood had gathered to see the wonderful object,” he added.
Chief Adetoro said they initially thought it was a mere toy but after a close look, it was discovered that “the material could be a bomb, more so that ever since we captured and incapacitated it nobody had come looking for it because we initially felt that it was one of the toys parents bought for their children for Christmas and New Year.
“Also, when we considered the manner with which it got in and exited, we felt that the object was being monitored and controlled from somewhere. After careful consideration and examination of the compartments of the object we thought it could be an explosive.
“When nobody from this community came to claim it, we concluded that the object was more than what we thought it to be; it must have travelled a long distance,” Afeez’s father said.
The Chief Imam of Awotan Central Mosque, Sheik Abdulai Adesina, and a woman who are both neighbours of Chief Adetoro confirmed the incident, saying “the sound of the object was highly terrifying and fearful.”
When the object was examined, it is made up of components such as a dry cell battery, a censor housed by a white case, a USB  (memory card) drive and a panel that is well cased as well as lots of cables.
According to Chief Adetoro, the community had informed security agents about the incident and called for investigation on it, noting that if left unravelled, it would be difficult to douse tension and erase fear among the residents of the community who now believed that they were being targeted for attacks.
The object, Sunday Tribune investigation revealed, has since been handed over to security operatives.

The first Questions

The first question of the Bible is " Adam, where hath thou?"- Genesis 3:9. When man disobeyed God, he left the position where he was placed. He lost the courage and boldness to stand before God. He lost his identity. He was stripped naked. Then God stepped in to look for man, to enable man discover himself.

The first question of  the new testament is " Where is he,  that was born?"-Matthew 2:2. In a bid for the spiritually conscious men to discover and recover all; they set out to look for the Saviour of the world.

Have you found the one that was born? If yes, stick to Him. If no, find Him and accept Him. He is always available.  Revelations 3:20.

Lessons from Christmas

God had seen that man had no solution to his numerous problems. He stepped in to help man. Being a merciful God, who would not want us destroyed; decided to send Jesus Christ to this World. It is clear that only man can save man from problem. That was why Christ had to come like a man. Moreover, whoever would save a sinner must be sinless. No wonder Jesus Christ had to come through a virgin, without sexual intercourse.

When it was time for Christ to be born, there was a need for a vessel to convey the Gift of God. In the whole World, there was no one fit enough to convey the Gift, except Mary.

Mary was known to be the fiancee of Joseph. She was decent and God fearing. She was located for this great assignment and she successfully carried out the divine assignment.

History can never forget the extra- ordinary character of Mary that stood her out among her contemporary. While she decided to live a decent life, she did not have premonition of What God was to do through her.

In the same vein, there is a need to recognise an important role played by Joseph, the to be husband. He was decent and feared God. He was not judgemental when he discovered that his wife was pregnant. He shew true love, he bore the condition or situation together with Mary. He  stood by her against any external aggression with the help of God.

If it were to be today, Mary would have been taken to the public opinion court. Mary would have been condemned for been pregnant before wedding. No wonder the Scripture says "do not judge, for you not to be judged"; because God knows everything.

Birth of Christ was announced to the World. An Angel announced the birth of Christ. A special star was seen by the Astrologers. The Shepherds heard about the birth as well. Host Angels celeberated His birth. Herod further announced His birth, by trying to kill Jesus Christ.

As Jesus Christ's birth was not hidden, His death was not hidden. Likewise His coming would not be hidden. Be prepared to meet your Lord. Confess your sin and invite Jesus Christ into your life. As we are celebrating Christ today, What is your relationship with Christ?

Love

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Love is practicalised by given. There is no other evidence greater than this. As you are celebrating, remember the less priviledge, the Widows, Orphans, the poor, etc.

God created the Universe and everything
there in;
He is a giver of lives
He does not want a sinner to die but to repent.
He speaks to us in plain language, because he loves us.
He allows sun, rain, etc. to benefit everybody.

Above all, use every opportunity to tell people about the provision of God through Jesus Christ. Propagate the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The essence of celebrating Christmas is to remind us of the love of God and to enable us re-examine ourselves, by finding out whether we are doing His will. God had invested a lot on us. What are we doing in return?

There is no dispute about the birth of Jesus Christ. There is no controversy that He is alive, 'cause He is the only one having empty sepulcher.

In conclusion, your status, position, complexion, language, tribe, etc. have nothing to do with your final destination, hereafter. But your relationship with Jesus Christ- God's Solution.
Merry Christmas!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The reason for the Season is JESUS CHRIST. The World is commemorating the Birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Do not be beclouded by the celebration, purse and think about your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Who is Jesus Christ to you? Your relationship with Him determines your destination, hereafter. Truth is constant. "Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life"-John 14:6.

If you are yet to know Him, use this opportunity to invite Him into your life. He is standing by the door of your heart, let Him in. "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him,......."-Revelation 3:20.

Vanguard Newspaper reported that ,

Jonathan unveils Nigeria’s first
indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle

Kaduna – President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday in Kaduna unveiled the country’s first
indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle, GULMA, designed and constructed by the Nigerian Air Force.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan said that the unveiling of the vehicle marked another landmark moment in the nation’s history. He said that besides its diverse military
application, the vessel would provide a range of benefits in disaster management, power line
surveys and law enforcement.
Jonathan said that the vehicle would also be useful in aerial imaging/mapping telecommunications and weather monitoring.

“It is also rapidly becoming an important tool in news coverage, environmental monitoring, and oil
and gas exploration. “Considering the potential impact of its benefit
and versatility, I cannot but say how proud I am of the men and women of our Armed Forces.

“Apart from their commitment to the protection of our sovereignty, they are helping to keep our nation ahead in military science and technology
and to keep their civilian. counterparts on their toes. “Today, as we stand in appreciation of the gallant men and women of our Air Force, we are reminded that hard work and diligence can break many barriers,’’ he said.

Jonathan commended the Chief of Air Staff and all officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force for the achievement, noting that it would strengthen the country. He said it would also enhance the nation’s role in peace keeping and conflict prevention.

The president said he was optimistic that this stride by the Nigerian Air Force would mark a turning point for indigenous technology in every
sector of the nation’s life.
“Let me assure the Air Force of the Federal Government’s support for this and all other research projects.
“We will encourage and assist private sector concerns to key into mass production of the project to achieve the highest and best
commercial use of this prototype Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

Obasanjo bombs Jonathan

Punch Newspaper reported that Obasanjo bombs Jonathan.

President Goodluck Jonathan is under a fresh attack . This time, it is a stinker from a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Balogun of Owu, Abeokuta, did not make an impromptu speech at a public forum, he took his time to pen what he felt to be Jonathan’s
failings.

In an 18-page letter to the President,
Obasanjo accused him, among other things, of not honouring his words and taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.

The letter dated December 2, 2013 and titled, “Before it is too late” became public knowledge on Wednesday. Only on Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal,
said Jonathan was paying lip service to the anti-corruption campaign in the country.

In the letter, Obasanjo accused the President of pursuing “ selfish personal and political interests
based on advise from his “self-centred aides.” He also alleged that the President had failed to deliver on his promises to Nigerians and to curb insurgency and corruption in the country.

“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” an obviously angry Obasanjo lamented. He went ahead to declare that
“Jonathan had betrayed God and Nigerians,” who voted him into power.

Obasanjo further alleged that Jonathan had not only placed more than 1, 000 Nigerians on a political watchlist, he had succeeded in
destroying the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and polarised Nigeria along regional and religious lines. He also said the President was involved in anti-party activities.

• PDP crises and Jonathan’s personal agenda.

He said the President was using the PDP National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, to cause the lingering crises in the party.

Obasanjo said, “Let me start with the leadership of the ruling party. Many of us were puzzled over
what was going on in the party. Most party members blamed the national chairman. I understand that some in the Presidency tried to create the impression that some of us were to blame.

“The situation became clear only when the national chairman spoke out that he never did anything or acted in any way without the approval or concurrence of the party leader (Jonathan) and that where the party leader disapproved, he made correction or amendment, that we realised most actions were those of the chairman but the motivation and direction were those of the leader.

“It would be unfair to continue to level full blames on the chairman for all that goes wrong with the party. The chairman is playing the tune
dictated by the paymaster (Jonathan). But the paymaster is acting for a definitive purpose for
which deceit and deception seem to be the major ingredients.”

Obasanjo stated that Jonathan’s failure to keep his promise not to seek a second term had also worsened the crises in the PDP.
“Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and the measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person who shared his observation with me. And only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging
by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honourable path.”

He added that before the 2011 general elections, the President told some governors and the PDP stakeholders, including himself,
that he would not seek reelection.
He specifically mentioned Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, as having told him that Jonathan accepted not to run for Presidency
in 2015.

The former head of state said, “ He (Suswam) told me that you had accepted a one-term Presidency to allow for ease of getting support
across the board in the North. I decided to cross-check with you. You did not hesitate to confirm to me that you are a strong believer in
a one-term of six years for the President and that by the time you have used the unexpired time of your predecessor and the four years of your first term, you would have almost used up to six years and you would not need any more term or time.”

According to the former Nigerian leader, Jonathan’s failure to keep the promise had made him appear like a man without honour. Obasanjo told the President that it would be
“fatally morally flawed” for him to contest in 2015.

He wrote, “As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important
ingredients of character. I will want to see nyone in the office of the Presidency as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”

The former President accused Jonathan of supporting the candidates of opposition parties
in governorship elections in Lagos, Ondo, Edo and Anambra states and causing disagreements between party members.

He said, “Maybe you also need to know that many party members feel disappointed in the double game you were alleged to play in support
of party governorship candidates in some states where you surreptitiously supported non-PDP
candidates against PDP candidates in exchange for promise or act of those non-PDP governors supporting you for your election in the past or for the one that you are yet to formally declare.”

He claimed that a former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu “was nocturnally brought to Abuja to strike a deal for support “ for
Jonathan’s personal election at the expense of the PDP and its governorship candidate.

“If you as leader of the party cannot be seen to be loyal to the PDP in support of the candidates of the party and the interests of such party
candidates have to be sacrificed on the altar of your personal and political interest, then good luck to the party and I will also say as I have had occasions to say in the past, good luck to Goodluck,” he said in the letter.

• Insecurity/Boko Haram

Noting that the President had not been able to tackle the remote causes of insurgency in the country, Obasanjo again advised him to adopt “a carrot and stick approach” to stem the problem.

US plane lands at wrong Airport

BBC NEWS reported that,

US plane lands at wrong airport

A Boeing 747 Dreamlifter cargo plane will attempt to take off from a minor airport in Kansas after it landed there by mistake. The giant cargo jet was heading for McConnell air force base in Wichita but instead touched down at nearby Colonel James Jabara airport. Airport officials believe the plane will be able to depart despite the much shorter runway at Jabara. An attempt is scheduled for noon local time (18:00 GMT) on Thursday. The aircraft normally needs a runway of 2,780m (9,119ft) to get airborne at maximum weight; Jabara's runway is only 1,860m long.

A tug was dispatched to the airport to turn around the giant cargo plane. Brad Christopher of the Wichita Airport Authority told the Associated Press news agency the company that operates the aircraft had "assured us they've run all the engineering calculation and performance and the aircraft is very safe for a normal departure at its current weight and conditions here". The Dreamlifter, which landed at Jabara on Wednesday evening, is a modified 747-400 passenger aeroplane, which can carry more cargo by volume than any aeroplane in the world, according to Boeing. The aerospace company uses its fleet of four Dreamlifters to transport large assembled components of its 787 Dreamliner from suppliers  the world to the final assembly location in Washington state. The City of Wichita tweeted that no-one was injured and no property damage occurred when the plane landed.

NIGERIA & ITALY, FRIENDLY MATCH.

NIGERIA SUPER EAGLE PERFORMED WONDERFULLY WELL.

RELATIONSHIP

We are all products of relationship; without a relationship there wouldn't have been any human being on the surface of the earth. A man marries a woman to form a relationship, consequently  children are born. In this relationship the children are nurtured. Your relationship has a lot to do in your life. Your successes or failures has a lot to do with the relationship you keep.

There is a common saying, "show me your friend and I will tell the type of person you are". In a nutshell, to be successful in life; you need to be a friend of successful people. The Scripture says, "can two walk together except they be agreed"- Amos 3:3. Whatever you want to be in this world, develop a relationship in that regard.

There are dos and don'ts of relationship
Don`t try too hard to convince the other person of your love. Love and trust yourself more. This will relax your love defences and enable you to give yourself totally to relationship.
  •  Don`t question the other person`s love all the time.
  • Feel the oneness of the universe, step beyond the `me first` conflicts that mar relationships.
  • Don't pretend to be what you are not.
  • Understand that there are individual differences.
  • Accept your partner for who he is.
  • Respect your partners' opinion.
  • Don`t use your relationships to fulfil your expectations.
  • Know yourself. Analyse the cause of your reactions.
  • Acknowledge the other person as an individual. Grow and let grow.
  • In a conflicting relationship, check where you went wrong rather than where the other person failed.
  • Listen to each other.
  • Communication strengthens the foundation of a relationship.
  • Take the first step in working out a relationship without worrying about who is in the right.
  • Don`t depend on any person and don`t let the other person depend on you.

CAUSES OF BACKSLIDING

Backsliding as the name implies means sliding away from the love of God and consequently moving against the laws and fellowship of God. Backsliding, which is the primary reason for spiritual destitution, rarely occurs suddenly. It is always a gradual process - one backward step after another.

The major or primary causes of backsliding among many are:
  1. Prayerlessness (Matth.26:41);
  2. Neglect of personal devotional study of the Word of God for growth, freshness and daily strength (1Tim4:16);
  3. Self-confidence and pride (1Corinthians 10:12; 2Corinthiaans 3:5);
  4. Disobedience and unbelief (1Samuel15:16-23);
  5. Covetousness and self-will (1Kings11:9-11);
  6. Love of money and material prosperity (1Tim 6:10-12);
  7. Unfaithfulness in service and ministry (2 Corinthians 4:1-2; 1Corinthians 4:1-2).

To be trapped in any or all of these things enumerated above will surely lead to backsliding with grave consequence of becoming spiritually dry having to go into the wilderness. In such state or condition, sermons and messages become dry, leaving only letters without the backing of the Holy Spirit, which will be incalculable damage to the hearers being lifeless (2 Corinthians 3:6).

The great commission

The great commission is known as the assignment or work committed into the hands of Christians to preach the good news of Jesus Christ to the World. Bringing back the World to their Creator, letting them knowing the love of God. Reminding them that there is an end to everything in this world. Reminding them of eternity, leading them to make a good choice.

Personal evangelism should be the compelling responsibility of every believer and it consists in showing a sinner his need of Christ as the Saviour, to a definite experience of the new birth as well as showing him how to continue in the experience, so that he might escape God's judgment.

Children who have reached the age of accountability be biblically, pictorially and prayerfully brought to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and seen through to adolescence in the same experience through training and in the Scriptures.

We go to the uttermost parts of the earth to reach every creature with the good news of the kingdom, using both the traditional and technologically advanced means of communication properly adapted to reach various communities and classes of people in our world at their different levels of development.

The gospel message and materials be carried by travelling believers and presented to "every creature" that uses the various available carriages. Therefore, deliberate efforts should be made to develop acceptable and adaptable programmes by believers to reach these travellers with the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To effectively evangelize a community and conserve the fruit of evangelism, viable churches must be planted within the geographical and socio-cultural reach of everyone. Church planting programme be  effectively and efficiently executed for maximum fruitfulness and results to ensure the stability of the new congregation and facilitate the process of disciplining the new members.

New convert, who have just come to the kingdom, be nourished up and trained in spiritual concepts for the establishment of their faith and full integration to the Body of Christ. The young Christian be trained in basic spiritual concepts in order to bring stability into his spiritual life and fruitfulness to his Christian witness.

Newly planted churches should be nurtured for continuity and sustainable growth whereby, members are taught to live victoriously and envisioned to reproduce new churches after their kind.

THE GREAT COMMISSION IS TO REACH THE WORLD WITH THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

GODLY WOMAN

The first woman was created to help and support the first man. Women's supportive ministries are still necessary and indispensable in the Church today.

Christianity has lifted the woman to a new place in the world. What she is now, and all she shall have of privileges and true honour, she owe to that gospel which took those qualities which had been counted weak and unworthy, and gave them a divine glory in Christ.

A chaste, holy and heavenly minded woman is the workmanship of God, a rare miracle in the church and a great woman to the world.

There can be no higher for a woman than to be a faithful wife and a happy and influential mother. It is the place which God has given the woman and she who fills it well is as honourable and honoured as the most illustrious man can be.

Women reach the world faster through intercessory prayer, evangelism, sacrificial service, education of young women and training of children than through crusades and competitive public ministries.

Purity of heart is the noblest inheritance and love the fairest ornament of women.

The deepest tenderness a woman can show to a man is to help him to do his duty.

Women never truly command, till they have given their promise to obey: and they are never in more danger of being slaves than when the men are at their feet.

Women make valuable contribution to many facets of church ministry when they are transformed by Christ, taught in the truth, submissive under authority, clothed with humility and held by Hand divine.

The future of society is in the hands of  mothers; if the world was lost through a woman, she alone can save it - through Christ and conversion and training of children.

The Preacher

The church that compromises Truth today will compromise Morals tomorrow.

It is in vain for the preacher to hope to please all alike. Let a man stand with his face in what direction he will, he must necessarily turn his back on one-half of the world.

"A preacher must be both soldier and shepherd. He must nourish, defend and teach; he must have teeth in his mouth and be able to bite and fight" - Martin Luther.

The Church does not need more popular preaching but more pungent, convicting preaching.

A pastor needs the tact of a diplomat, the strength of Samson, the patience of Job, the wisdom of Solomon - and a cast-iron stomach.

"I preach as never sure to preach again, as a dying man to  dying men" - Richard Baxter.

The pastor in a growing church is always a central figure, but he is careful to surround himself with sanctified, responsible, consecrated believers who function as lay ministers.

Growth occurs when Christ is obeyed as the Chief Shepherd, when the under-shepherds preach the word faithfully, and when the sheep follow the shepherd wholeheartedly.

Preach not because you have to say something, but because you have something to say.

True evangelism brings people to Christ and also into the body of Christ. Unless the members of the body are trained and mobilized to evangelize, the growth of the church will be limited.

How to develop a winning Mind

Mind is an important part of man. It is the place where everything man does originates from. No wonder the Scripture says, "As man thinketh, so he is ". We were fashioned to be creative in everything we do.
Everything we enjoy today existed in the mind of the Inventors. The electricity, that is used to power or operates most of the gadgets we use today, existed as a THOUGHT in the mind of the inventor. The Aeroplane of today, the Rockets, The Television, the Computer, Micro-wave, etc existed in the mind of their Inventors.

Today because of their determination and resilience, they were successful. They didn't allow the dream killers to discourage them. Instead of been discouraged they turn their critics to catalyst for success. They have the picture of their success in their mind everyday.

Though, there wasn't any assurance visible that they could be successful, the I can do spirit fuelled their faith. It is believed by people that the first place to win a battle is mind. Though no Mentor, they were determined. No one would have believed that an object such as Aeroplane could be suspended in the air, let alone carrying appreciable numbers of people and cargoes across a distance.

Where others are seeing difficulties,  a mind programmed for success sees opportunities. No impossibility in the dictionary of such an individual. There is a popular saying, "where there is will, there is way". That thing that pop up in your mind, if you are determined you can achieve it. Whatever you set, programmed your mind to achieve shall be yours. Though it might be a new thing, there was no history of such things being done before now. You are going to be a new Investor.

Define your clear goals. If it is in existence, find a mentor to motivate you. Read books, watch video, consult people (Specialist) in the area of your interest. You will surely make it.

GODLY CHARACTER

Character is the mental or moral qualities that make a person, group, nation, etc different from others. Your character is your total description. Character itself is the accumulation of behaviors / attitudes that have become part of one over the years. It defines who you are and what you do. Whatever you are in this world, whatever might be your achievement, if you don’t have good character, you have nothing.

Character goes a long way to determine one’s influence on those around, whether positive or negative. Joshua as a case study. The life style/character of Joshua was a basic element that informed his ability to elicit obedience from his followers and fellow Jews.

We first heard of him when he helped Moses during the Exodus, when he was sent by Moses to fight against the Amalekites; a battle which he won gallantly, bringing glory to God and victory to His people (Exodus17:8-15). To have been chosen by such a friend of God for such an onerous task goes a long way to tell us how faithfully committed he would have been to the course of God. Character!!!

His positive stance along with Caleb when they were both sent with ten others to spy the land of Cannan (Num.13:8,16; 14:6-9) projected him as a man with unwavering faith in Yahweh and a visionary motivator who could spur others up to follow God’s unfailing leading. No wonder himself and Caleb were the only ones who saw the Promised Land of their age mates that left Egypt.

Little wonder then that he became the trusted lieutenant of Moses the great man of God so much that he eventually stepped into the shoes of the latter after the latter’s translation (Num.27:12-23; 34:17; Josh.1:1-2). God saw in Joshua a man who could lead His people to follow Him in the actualisation of His eternal programme for them. Can God say that of you? Does your antecedent show you as one who is faithfully committed to doing God’s will so much that you can motivate others to do the same?

In his adventures as the military leader of the people, we see him exhuming real confidence that is based on nothing but the impeccability of the Jehovah Elshadai.

In his exploits, we see his total commitment to obeying God’s directives. He explicitly followed God’s instructions in cases such as the battle against Jericho, Ai and other people. He even divided the land according to Divine directives. The victory that greeted the way he led the people to follow God’s directives coupled with the deceit they suffered from the Hivites of Gibeon when they failed to ask direction from God (Joshua 9:14-27) would have taught the people that continued obedience to God’s Word was the only secret of their continued victory and continued possession of the Promised Land.

His declaration in his old age, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15b) is a summary of what Joshua stood for in his life time. He saw God as the only one worthy of his worship and service.

When Joshua was exhibiting the exemplary character, he did not know to what extent he would go. He did all he could to assist his master, Moses in carrying out the divine assignment. He honour God with everything. He obeyed God to letter. He meditates day and night in God’s Word. At the end of it all he became a Master.  Are you entrusted with one position or the other? Do everything within your ability to be faithful and successful in line with the Word of God. Character can mar or make you; check your character. You didn’t make yourself to be what you are, therefore respect others.
